Songs for an English language classroom

“Music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul”
- Plato
Hello! Today I would like to share my thought about music and songs in the process of learning English!

I think that early childhood education plays an essential role in preparing young English learners for later success in school. As many researchers stated, children who have an opportunity to develop their musical skills have great results learning different languages.
Have you ever imagined that actually songs and music occupies an important place in our life? During the English language lessons, I always use songs to open and close my lesson. This brings structure to the lesson and allows children to understand the structure as well. Children songs are always fun and motivating to start the activities and follow the rules. In my opinion songs can illustrate different themes and topics, add variety; texts of the songs are full of different practical grammar points and they offer a wide variety of vocabulary and linking sentences that could be used to practice communication skills.
Using songs (accompanied by video) are truly motivating, they focus children attention, they deal with the whole spectrum of human emotions and often children are willing to sing a song even if they do not understand the meaning of the words. I feel that songs create an atmosphere of interest, children energy level always rises, they become more active.
Children songs are usually catchy and always easy to remember, that is why children enjoy singing the same song so many times, especially when they remember the words and are allowed to dance along.
My students and I always enjoy singing different songs.
Here are some of our favourites:

Let the music get down in your soul!

Inna
